| ETHYL—THE FACTS SUMMARISED 8. Does Ethyl Petrol increase power? All petrols contain roughly the same amount of energy. They differ, however, in their ability to deliver that energy in an engine. A motor car never operates under ideal conditions, since it is subjected to widely varying throttle and load. Because of its nature, ordinary petrol cannot meet these varying demands and so function well under all conditions. With Ethyl Petrol the energy can be properly harnessed and the maximum power output under all conditions obtained. 9. How does Ethyl Petrol give more mileage? By elimination of low-gear running, Ethyl Petrol does the same work with fewer engine revolutions and gives increased mileage. This point is therefore much more noticeable in hilly than in flat country. (It is fundamental that the amount of power which can be obtained from petrol increases as the compression of the motor is raised. Consequently, with engines of the higher compression, which Ethyl Petrol makes possible, a considerable increase in fuel economy will be noticeable.) 10. Does Ethyl Petrol lessen vibration? Yes. The “knock” is a producer of vibration and Ethyl Petrol eliminates that knock. 11. Does Ethyl Petrol remove carbon? No. But some users have thought so because Ethyl Petrol stops the “knock” that develops with carbon formation. 4 ETHYL—THE FACTS SUMMARISED carburetter take on a red hue, with the result that this normal residue is sometimes wrongly attributed to the use of Ethyl Petrol. 27. Does Ethyl Petrol cause clogging of carburetter strainer, jets, or any other part of the fuel system? No. There is no suspended matter in Ethyl Petrol. Dirt, dust, and other substances are, however, as liable to find their way into tanks containing Ethyl Petrol as into tanks containing ordinary petrol, and the red dye is apt to magnify this. 28. Is Ethyl Petrol any more affected by change in temperature than ordinary petrol? No. 29. Need the Carburetter be changed when Ethyl Petrol is used? The adjustment is the same as for Glico Petrol. 30. What is the effect of Ethyl Petrol on Sparking Plugs? None, except that experiments indicate that Ethyl Petrol has a tendency to keep sparking plugs cleaner. 31. How does Ethyl Petrol affect paint, varnish or other finishes? It has no more effect than any other petrol. The quantity of red dye used is infinitesimal and washes off. 9 | ||
