XJ.452. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Have you seen R.H.F about this. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} S. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RE: BENTLEY MASCOT. C. is sorry that the Works Officials do not like the Mascot which he sent along, and below please see what he has to say:- "There is a difference of opinion upon it in London, but it is certainly looked upon as of modern design. The Artist's description of it is as follows:- "An interesting feature of the new 3½-litre Bentley is a specially designed mascot which is shaped in perfect accordance with the graceful speedlines of the car. "Its subject is the all-seeing eye supporting on each side the initial letter of the name Bentley. "The eye is an ancient symbol of strength and power. "To this have been added the wings of speed. "In bringing these three attributes together in one mascot the Artist has truly found a fitting emblem for the new Bentley car. "The Letter 'B' mysteriously occupies the position of the pupil of the eye for though the loops of the letter are pierced right through, the 'B' reads correctly on both sides." "Actually I have not felt very happy about it owing to its lack of obvious meaning." Will you kindly put in hand a model of E's suggested design, and let me have it as quickly as possible. A Blueprint of LeC.3633 showing E's suggestion for improving the Bentley Mascot was sent to C. under E.1/HP.14.9.33. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} | ||
