RIPPLE UNIT FOR 12.B.V. CHASSIS (L.R.2). Further to our memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}3/AH.10.6.39, will you please include the following in its specification. (1) On account of unsatisfactory results on Vandervell big ends on Wraith III No.4 the con. rods for the above unit should be - (a) Existing connecting rods if crack test O.K. (b) Fit new set of standard big end bearings. (c) Fit new set of con. rod bolts. (d) Fit Vandervell little end bushes in normal manner, hole in bush registering with feed hole in rods on Nos. 1 and 2. (e) Fit Vandervell little end bushes reverse way, i.e. hole at top for splash feed, thus blanking off the oil hole through the rods on Nos. 3 and 4. (f) Nos. 5 and 6 to have standard little end bushes. Regarding Vandervell bushes, these are in "Clevite 8" and will be supplied by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} Should be fitted in accordance with our memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}11/JH.9.6.39. Incidentally, by the failure of the Vandervell big ends these as specified on R.80 No.7 unit should be deleted and standard rods and big ends instructed. (2) As originally specified a standard production Wraith carburetter should be fitted, existing is automatic choke control. In view of the above it will be necessary to fit up a control for the choke on the instrument board. | ||
