In reply to your letter of the 18th inst, we have pleasure in enclosing herewith blue print V.42488/A, showing modifications to proposed new Tank Attachment. We have checked the relative expansion and contraction of the spindle and bracket and find with even temperature of between -10° C and plus 40° C, the difference is extremely small and is under .002". We are however, taking steps to see that there is ample clearance under extreme conditions. The drawing also shows ribbing of the bracket as suggested. With regard to the collar, on laying this out with a shoulder we consider that there might still be a tendency for this to turn on the spindle and in order to do away with the pin we have now locked the collar so that it will be definitely locked against the shoulder on the spindle. We have also called for the bushes in phosphor bronze. The nut holding the gear spindle will now be castellated and secured by a pin. We shall be glad if you will kindly let us know if these modifications meet with your approval, in order that we may proceed with detailed drawings. Yours faithfully, for S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LIMITED C.P.Randall. ELECTRICAL ENGINEER.
