Micro-Examination Report. 1360 M.1299. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} / Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} HL.6/AG.1.4.37. Laboratory. Re: VALVE SPRINGS. (Your ref: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}7/AP.25.3.37) The two springs examined have been examined :- Phantom III Spring. S/CV. This contained a seam 0.013" in depth and oxide-filled which would definitely be present in the wire before coiling, and accounts for the failure. All the other usual tests were applied, and to these the spring gave a satisfactory response. Bentley Spring. "Swedish O/H & T". This has been tested for bend, fracture, hardness, decarburisation, surface defects, structure, etc. but we could find nothing wrong with the material or treatment. HL. / He. | ||
