In reply to No 6. item raised at SG{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s Conference held on 24.8.37. The S.U. pump mounted on the dash on Wraith 26.G.VI which had been standing idle since the car left the works on 17.7.37, refused to start when required for test on 23.8.37. This was definitely due to stiffening of the diaphragms, and the pump was started with manual assistance. It ran very slowly for some time, then picked up petrol, and gradually resumed normal working.

The pump had been fitted with a plug on the suction and an open delivery. This pump was fitted with G.5. oil silk diaphragms as standard and had been subjected to high under bonnet temperatures which had dried out the pumps.
