ORIGINAL Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}/4/MA.3. 3. 32. X4482 REVERSE GEAR ALFA ROMEO. Further to your Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M.29.2.32. we regret that the sketch of the Alfa gear train's we sent you was incorrect. We are sending you now therefore a corrected print with some further added details. The way that Alfa avoid the reverse shaft turning when in a forward gear is by sliding it sufficiently far forward when not in use so that it misses the 1st speed sliding gear when changing into 2nd. The movement of the gear lever into reverse gear is about twice that into any forward gear. A similar method is adopted by several other manufacturers. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/H.Grylls. | ||
