8740. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}4/MJ.14.3.30. ROLLED EYE REAR SPRINGS. We have been trying to get a good bedding on a pair of new rolled eye rear springs. We find that at the solid eye end of the spring the clip is nearer the end of the leaf than at the rolled eye end (i.e. B. < A.{Mr Adams} in sketch). The stiffening of the clip when it is close to the tip of the leaf makes to tip dig in and it is impossible to get good bedding. We recommend that the centre line of the clip should not be less than 2.25 inches from the leaf tip or alternatively that the tip of the leaf carrying the clip should be thinner than the others.
