Your ref. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/R.{Sir Henry Royce}

31st December 1937.

Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
Derby.

Dear Sirs:

Referring to letter of the 28th inst., from Mr. C.W. Nichols. We are sending you a Dual Gauge, i.e. Oil Gauge and Thermometer with a model of the suggested stamped case and with the dials marked - Low, Normal and High for the Oil Gauge, and Cold, Normal and Hot for the Thermometer. The markings agree with your drawing S.14 except that the highest mark on the Thermometer dial corresponds to 106°C instead of 110°C as called for on S.14. If we work to the latter figure it makes the other marks corresponding to 95° and 75°C unsymmetrical. This dial is shown on our drawing SK.49299.

During the recent visit made by your Mr. Steadman and Mr. Davis it was suggested that we should make up a sample of the dial marked in the above manner, and we, therefore, decided to make this modification together with the suggestion for a stamped case, on the one sample.

Mr. Manwaring will be calling upon you next week so perhaps you could kindly consider this matter and let him have some information.

The model of the Clock in the suggested stamped case will be sent early next week.

Assuring you of our best attention.

Yours faithfully
FOR S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LTD.
