c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1044 DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}8/G.9.7.38. WYA BENTLEY 60. HIGH FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING. Please receive herewith E.CD.785 High Front Engine Mounting - Bentley 60. The engine is shown mounted in a Bentley 111 or Bentley 50 chassis frame with the lower member of the triangle deleted as proposed on PD.199 for the Bentley 111 engine mounting. The nose bearing rubbers are the same as the latest ones instructed for the Wraith 111 engine to design E.CD.743. It will be noticed that the crankcase and the wheelcase are altered to provide a suitable facing for the revised size of nose bearing. The first engine to be built will have the original facings on the crankcase and wheelcase to suit the small size of bearing rubbers shown on PD.88, and it will be necessary to adapt the design of PD.88 nose bearing etc. to the channel supports shown on E.CD.785 if it is required to place the first engine into a chassis. In order to get in the front engine support bearing at all, we have unfortunately had to offset the nose bearing by .200 towards the offside of the engine, whereas the offset should be approximately 2" to 2.500" in the other direction to keep the engine on an even keel, this may not be very harmful as the torque reaction will be opposed to the engine out of balance weight and will tend to hold the engine in a vertical position when running. Will you please detail and instruct the new parts to be included for any future B.60 engines produced. It should also be noted that the oil supply connection to timing gears has had to be modified to clear the revised engine support facing. BK.{A. Birkett - Commercial Manager} | ||
