Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/MJ.14.12.32. PEREGRINE MATERIAL. With reference to our list of Peregrine material sent through ref: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/MJ.5.12.32, we wish to hold up the following parts :- (1) Road Wheels. - Due to the fact that we have had failures on the car in France. (2) Machining of exhaust valves - Because we have had failures on the test beds which may demand a different shape of head. The following additional parts we consider are safe to go ahead with :- (1) Crankcase unit complete except lower half. This releases bearings, bearing caps, etc. (2) Connecting Rods. All of our running has been done on rods with the oil pipe sweated to the rod in the standard way. There is an experiment going through producing a rod with the oil hole drilled in the forging. The chief advantage of this scheme is that it should be cheaper and neater. We have had no trouble however with the existing rods, and if the Works are satisfied that there will no saving by changing over to the modified type there is no reason why the rods should not be released. (3) Pistons and Rings. (4) Dynamo and Water Pump Drive. (5) Ignition governor drive. (6) Cross drive shaft. (7) Water Connections. (8) Bonnet - except fasteners. | ||
