-3- (4) Brakes. 32-EX has more front braking than production. We are supplying production levers to reduce the front braking. We think, however, that in this case the rear axle will bounce about on the road too much; we should like you to observe this. We should like you to try running without the load on the friction arm and see if thumps develop, or any other disadvantage. (5) Steering. We know that you have twice had trouble with the cross steering tube ball ends, and Grylls will follow up and make sure the tapers are O.K. We should also like you to check the pre-loading in the steering gear itself, and see how it disappears. (6) Cooling. We are going to send out special fan pulleys to speed up the fan, also a larger and better normal type of fan; and ultimately when we have got further with the development, flexibly bladed fans. It should be possible, however, to get a better figure of merit for the cooling system as it stands when the weather is warmer, as it is difficult to get a true approximation with the louvred bonnet blanked off. (7) Petrol Supply. When the hot weather comes we should like it to be confirmed that the filters on the rear of the frame are as good as those fitted down by the change speed lever. Both systems are on this car. We should like a careful check to be kept on the big end bearings, because we do not wish to run these out. When they show any signs of failure, the high speed endurance should be discontinued. We wish to get some steering and suspension tests on this car with new parts before we bring it away from France.
