-2- the point of view of the bonnet. A stranger 75% of the times when shutting the bonnet, in care to avoid scratching the radiator, catches the bonnet on these brackets. Also such brackets prevent possible lengthening of the bonnet. We have therefore carried out work with N.S.3303. The W.W. method for supporting the spare wheels brackets to the dash from the inside of the frame, together with the W.W. modification as per memo. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EVL/M8.9.31. The parts were made to Ex.6519 and Ex.6954. From the results we are convinced that this is the best method to support the side spare wheels. An erratic spare wheel becomes quiet when connecting up the tube. The scheme was at first tried with no alterations as regards the fixing of the dash to the frame. As the present dash does not rest on the frame, the one bolt each side through the bonnet strip was found insufficient and after an hours running there was some relative movement between the dash and the frame across the chassis. We are therefore removing the boss for the one bolt and fitting bracket Ex.6520 to hold the dash to the frame. This is a similar method to that used on the 25 HP. to secure the dash to the frame. The stiffeners on the outside of the frame as in memo. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EVL/M8.9.31. foul the spare wheel bracket. However with interior stiffeners we think these will be unnecessary. After 6.30 hrs running the adjustment thread of Ex.6524, the end piece of the tube, broke close to the lock nut - this was the O.S. nearest the dash. In this case we are using the next size large thread, but we suggest that no adjustment be used for production. The saving in machining costs should pay for the individual fitting. During the running of 6.30 hrs. the nuts holding the brackets Ex.6955 to the frame on four occasions could be tightened another 1/4 of a turn. We suggest that Ex.6955 and Ex.6521 should be made in one piece and split pins used for the nuts. We consider it important to use the bottom of the three bolts holding the spare wheel bracket to the frame, to hold bracket Ex.6955. Prints Ex.6519/Ex.6954/Sch.1532 attached to Ba's. copy.
