With regard to the failure of one motor due to the armature windings bursting we can only conclude that either the button was pressed while the engine was rotating or that excessive friction developed in the motor bearings thus preventing the disengagement of the armature after the engine had started. As this fault should not occur in the normal operation we do not anticipate any necessity for improving the banding of the windings.

The sluggish operation of the motor and the too late operation of the trigger switch have been our only troubles of any consequence for this type of motor, other than cases where the car has been driven through flood water thus allowing the motor to become soaked in water. This, of course, caused starter motor failure and we are working with a view to making the motor entirely oil-proof and water-proof.

We shall be pleased to be of any further assistance with regard to chassis electrical system troubles should occasion arise.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
