Messrs Leyland Motors Ltd.,
Leyland,
LANCS.

For the attention of Mr.V.W.Pilkington.

Dear Mr.Pilkington,

Mr.Robotham has asked me to write to you with regard to cylinder materials and cylinder wear etc. We should like to know what you consider to be the best material at the moment from a wearing point of view and also the best material for withstanding corrosion effects of combustion. We should like particulars of metals suitable for casting of complete cylinder blocks and for metals suitable for engines using liners.

We are also particularly interested in any method of predetermining the possible wearing properties of cylinder materials without having to do lengthy experiments, do you know of any reliable method or any quick test we could do.?

Have you tried upper cylinder lubricants and what effect have they.?

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
