Hypoid Axle Lubrication

BY8/G12.3.31 and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}3/KT13.3.31

I note contents of above, and in reply thereto can only state that, bearing in mind the pressure that has been brought to bear by the Administration to effect economies in all directions, it is unfortunate we were not advised earlier of the intention not to proceed with tests of the modified Lubricant put forward by Messrs. Price some three months ago, in which they definitely told us they had every confidence.

As advised, we have special arrangements with Messrs. Price covering supply of our various Lubricants on most preferential terms; and in the case of this Whitmore Compound, imported from U.S.A, it is costing us several times the price of Price's alternative; and I would suggest the question of testing here receives further consideration before we take any action. Presumably the tests initiated for the Wakefield substitute could equally be applied to the Price's substitute.

Only by sending out Price's alternative supplies to Messrs. Gleeson and getting them to test same out - which would take some months - could we act on their suggestion.

Meantime, should any other supplies be put up for test, perhaps we may be advised at the time of Expl.Dept's inability or otherwise to undertake such tests.
