R.R. 493A (50B) (D.B. 175 25-9-24) J.H.D. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. -3- Expl. No. REF. Hsl/LG25.3.25. It will be necessary to reduce the amount of oil to the rockers on the EAC. At present we have three stages of oil pressure :- 30 lbs. main. 5 lbs. to the rockers. 1 lb. to engine gears. We find that with variation in oil temperature and speed, the oil pressure to the rockers varies from 4 to 9 lbs. We have reduced the amount of oil to the rockers on experimental cars by removing altogether the valve controlling the intermediate pressure, then the supply both to rockers and engine gears is from the low pressure. This pressure is from 1 to 3½ lbs. We have found that this supply is ample oil to the rockers. Our records of oil consumption on the 40/50 engines during the 100,000 miles tests in France in connection with brakes, averaged 1325 m.p.g., the individual cars varied from 1120 to 1600 m.p.g.
