C. MELIN & CO E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} DURAND. ESTABLISHED IN 1865. HL X. 2894 16 FEB 1921 Telegrams: "REPLETE PHONE, LONDON" Telephone 4010 AVENUE. 7. RECEIVED 16 FEB 1921 LONDON 15 FEB 1921 Dear Sirs, We have pleasure in making known to you that we are in a position to supply our well-known "NEO-TUNGSTEN" CONTACTS. Many attempts have been made in the past to replace the usual Platinum Contacts by a less costly material, but hitherto these attempts have not been a success. The chief causes of failure to give satisfaction have been the breaking away of the contacts from the screw to which they were attached; a tendency for the tungsten tip to become rapidly oxidized, and lastly that the tungsten tips hitherto used have worn away at the edges after a very short period of service, thus rendering the contact unreliable, and in some cases, useless. These drawbacks to an otherwise desirable substitute have been, after a long period of tests and examinations, entirely overcome. We are now in the position to offer you our new "NEO-TUNGSTEN" Screw Contacts for Magnetos, Contact breakers, and invite you to give these a thorough trial under actual working conditions, in full confidence that the results obtained will amply bear out the claims we make for them. These are, briefly:- (1). The "NEO-TUNGSTEN" is a specially high grade metal, offering in use a minimum of oxidization, scarcely any wear, and a long life. (2). The new process of welding the tip to the screws ensures a perfectly secure joint, and entirely obviates the old fault of the tip breaking away from the contact when the magneto is running. We feel sure that a trial of these "NEO-TUNGSTEN" tips will convince you of their superiority as a substitute for the platinum tips. We shall be pleased to forward to you a sample pair of Screw Contacts for test purposes, should this matter be of interest to you. We are, Dear Sirs, Yours faithfully, for C.
