X4054 FLEXIBLE CONNECTION FROM CONDENSER
TO CRANKCHAMBER

With reference to your telegram re, the above. The reason this has not been standardised is because there has not been completed a sample of the latest scheme for a flexible connection from the condenser case to the crank-chamber. We have tried on one of the experimental cars a temporary flexible connection to the crankcase with the existing condenser. We could not appreciate any advantage with it. The points still pitted. It was thought at that time that most probably the reason we could not appreciate any advantage, was the fact that the earth connection of the condenser to the contact breaker cover was still poor. With the present design this connection is made by compressing the condenser which is very flexible. There have been several cases of this connection failing. On examining one of these in the dark, one could see sparks splashing. The new design overcomes this fault. We should have one of these on test next week - we will send a sample to W.W.
