To DY. {F R Danby} from HDY. {William Hardy} x4698 HDY. {William Hardy} 2/HP.30.10.33. c. For. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Des. NHC. Damper Governor Control. With reference to the difficulty with the present design of pump piston, we now agree that the screwed plugfixing is better than the spun type fixing owing partly to the desirability of keeping the clearance in the ball joint small. We accordingly send N. Sch. 3861 which shews the screwed plug type fixing asked for. We have separated the screwed plug from the bearing pad so that the thread may not interfere with the location of the pad. We think that the plug should be tried without a specially tight thread and that solder should be run into the recessed end without any holes drilled down the thread.
