Erdington,
Birmingham.

Dear Sirs,
For the attention of Mr. Jones.

With reference to your letter of the 29th.inst. ref. FBJ/FHC/1. We regret delay in reporting on the sample rubber blocks.

The position at present is as follows.

We think that possibly owing to the way we test our rubbers, or the alteration in shape that we have from time to time made in these rubbers, some confusion has arisen as to the actual rating of these blocks when mounted in our engine foot.

Attached is an approximate deflection curve of our standard rubber in the engine foot, also a sample of the rubber block which gives this curve.

We attach also print F.78146 which shews a general arrangement of our engine foot. It will be observed that when carrying the engine the compressed length of the rubber block is 1.00".

The rubbers that you forwarded for experimental test are actually softer than our standard rubbers when tested in the engine foot as will be seen from the deflection curve given on the graph.

We have added a curve that we think would be suitable for a rubber 1.125" long to give the same load at 1" as our present rubber, free length 1.150".

Perhaps you would let us have contd :-
