81698. To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}15/MJ.9.12.32. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and myself went to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town on Wednesday to see R.{Sir Henry Royce} arising out of a message we received from Miss Aubin that he would like to see me. R.{Sir Henry Royce} was in bed, but we had about two hours talk with him. We avoided any controversial subjects and no difficulties arose. We mentioned that we had a car running with the Marles Weller Steering which was giving very good results and which I think will accelerate the design of the independent front wheel suspension. Ds. has this scheme well in hand and R.{Sir Henry Royce} has agreed that the design was to be sent through so that we can make a trial before all the details and frills are completed. Hdy.{William Hardy} is working on a Phantom gearbox which has a silent second speed with synchro-mesh. This is an entirely new box and will be separated from the engine similar to Bensport. We are in agreement with this scheme. R.{Sir Henry Royce} agreed with the suggestion of the hand over-riding control for the automatic dampers. We found R.{Sir Henry Royce} looking much better than we had anticipated although it was noticeable that he tired very quickly. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
