'SS{S. Smith}' SUBFRAME. X7380

In order to facilitate the removal of the 'SS{S. Smith}' gearbox, when the engine is in the chassis, we would recommend that a detachable front subframe cross member should be provided.

We have tried the jacking up of the body to remove the gearbox, but this is not very convenient, as it means disconnecting instrument board controls, removal of scuttle isolation and the disconnecting of the holding down bolts. Further difficulties will arise with the scuttle armature and the packing, which cannot be easily replaced when lowering body into position.

It will therefore be seen that, all things considered, the detachable member would be the solution to our difficulty. Not only would gearbox be easier to handle but pedals etc. would be more accessible, as it will be realised, when the body is jacked up, the front subframe crossmember prevents easy access to the pedals.
