Condenser capacity tests to quench sparks on platinum points and plans for future long-run tests.

-2- EFC3/T18.6.18. Contd. condenser, however, will be very much more bulky than is intended in the final product. It will be seen from the other report attached hereto, that further tests have shown better results on the platinum points in spite of the low condenser capacity. We have confirmed as shown in our EFC2/T29418, that the addition of a small extra condenser capacity .07 mf. over and above .11 or .14 practically completely quenches the spark at the primary points, without unnecessarily reducing the voltage available at the secondary gap, and we should expect in these circumstances that there would be practically no bad effect on the platinum points. In our next long run, in which we shall be trying nickel distributor points, we will use the new condenser of larger capacity if available, or else we will use an additional external condenser to bring the capacity up to the required amount, and we think we shall be able to show that the effect on the platinum points will be practically nil.
