- 2 - drawn up to instruct coachbuilders how to wire the body to the chassis, and that in the case of the rear body lights there should be a definite earth provided on the chassis either by fitting our larger type of junction box, in which a central terminal is provided or by retaining the present small simple Bentley box and providing a separate earthing stud nearby the frame. If a cigar lighter is fitted in the rear of the body it is agreed that the wiring for this must be carried forward in the body to the scuttle and included in the general coachbuilders wiring to the distribution board with the following items: direction indicator, windscreen wiper, scuttle rail light, front cigar lighter and possibly a spot light, although this last item is to be officially discouraged. With regard to direction indicators, it is understood that these will always be fitted on the centre pillar of the body except in the case of drop head coupe's and open cars, and it follows that the wiring will always be carried to the distribution box on the front of the car and not to the body lighting junction box, and that provision for this wiring will be made in the body itself. It is assumed that the body will be arranged with enough length of wiring left at convenient points at the front and rear for joining up to the distribution box and body lighting junction box respectively, and directions to this effect will be supplied to coachbuilders in the body wiring instructions. By/RD. will prepare a suitable wiring diagram for coachbuilders, shewing just the particular information in which the coachbuilder is interested, and giving practical illustrations for carrying out the electrical installation generally as regards the body. (d) Head Lamps. It is agreed that we should supply two wires in addition to the ordinary lighting wires, one extra wire for each head lamp so that both lamps can be dipped as suggested, and it will not be necessary to extinguish one lamp. This latter point is considered important as it is believed that the dip and switch system is contrary to the recommendations of the Ministry of Transport, and furthermore the fitting of the two extra wires will bring the Bentley into line with the two Rolls-Royce chassis in meeting customers requirements. It was arranged that EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} should send a pair of Lucas lamps to the Works from the 15 sets that have been supplied to Conduit Street, so that these can be fitted on the chassis with 1" lower lamp standards, and the position of the centre of the lamp checked as regards its height above the frame. By/RD. will arrange with the Works what is to be | ||
