ENLARGED FACE SHIELD, TYPE "D" GUN.

With reference to your Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/H.G.S.50029, Lt. Commander Young, in his letter, had in mind two alternatives :-

(1) To make the balance weight do useful work in the form of an increased face shield on the balance being obtained at this point.

(2) To facilitate the production, leaving the face shield as it is but putting all the out of balance weight into the arm rest.

It now appears that the best solution may be a combination of both, and of the schemes you have submitted for the increase in face shield, we think the scheme showing ½" plate to be the best.
