AJS. C. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X 8300 BY6/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 5.7.26. E.A.C. CLUTCH ARRANGEMENT G.73748. ------------------------- Referring to AJS1/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 1.7.26. The Works tried to produce the parts referred to interchangeably, but were not successful, when treating the whole issue as an interchangeable set of units, but if we treat the crankshaft and the flywheel as a unit, which as a matter of fact we have always done, then it is a reasonable proposal to make the covers interchangeable, and this is what we are doing at the moment. If we continue to fit the flywheel to the crank before finishing the spigot on the flywheel for the cover, then certainly the taper bolt would be a better job. The best fit with a parallel ground bolt will not compare with the fit of a taper bolt, and unless we find ourselves in the near future able to treat the flywheel and crankshaft as independant units by improved machining methods, I do not see any advantage in changing from taper to parallel bolt. We tried on a batch of material in the Works to carry out Mr.Royce's requirements in full, but the results were not satisfactory, and we had to correct quite a big percentage of the parts by trueing up in position, so that I finally agreed to accept the flywheel and crankshaft as a unit provided the cover was made interchangeable. This I think is a reasonable proposition, and one Mr.Royce would not take serious exception to. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} By | ||
