(4) The Warner gear has a long internal mesh unit with overhang each end beyond the bearings, but as in the Detroit gear the forces at each end are in the same direction (although not equal) so that no large rocking forces are present. The mounting of the pinion driving the internal mesh unit is not satisfactory as shewn. The operation of the sliding pieces presents difficul-ties in both Detroit and Warner gears excepting the Stutz-Detroit gear, and in this case the box is lengthened to accommodate the operating gear alone. We understand Mr. Royce is sending us suggestions in connection with internal mesh gears. (8) RR. PROPOSAL FOR EPICYCLIC 3rd. WITH BRAKE. We have not commented upon this because it is R's own scheme, and he is well acquainted with it, but it combines silence with exceptionally easy DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} changing. | ||
