EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT REPORT
REFERENCE:- Lr{Mr Ellor}/HWB/SGL.1/GB.21.11.38.
Subject of Report:- Vibration of 5.5" bore Single Cylinder S.V. Engine.
General Conclusion:-
Records have been taken with the Askania Vibrograph at points on the cylinder head and crankcase of the 5.5" single cylinder S.V.Unit.
The results were similar to those obtained on the 4.2" unit. There was no resonance effect. The vibrograph recorded amplitudes up to .083" when the engine was running under normal conditions.
Owing to the vibrograph point bouncing there was an error of not more than 35% at these high amplitudes. The magnitude of this error was estimated by increasing the spring loading of the vibrograph. Even allowing for a 35% error the vibration amplitude of the plug insert may be as much as .05" at 3500 R.P.M.
