Regarding the improved valves for the engines,

I am getting Mr. Elliott to set out what we think an ideal valve for the car engines in the light of our recent knowledge.

This valve will have a moderate degree of angle of the face - about 30° - and slightly increased in face from our present practice, and will be somewhat umbrella in form.

It would permit of an increased length of guide if this was thought desirable.

As regards material for the present guides I suggest we make a number of experiments, probably including in the alloys tested, monel metal.

I thought at first that an increased angle of valve might throw less work on the guides, but I fear they have failed in both inlet and exhaust, and with an angle of 30° face, so there is not much hope in this direction.
