People Seen: Wn and Wn/Hbn Discussed cab position and agreed on central location as giving better visibility towards the front and allowing cheaper and easier engine controls to be fitted. Present radiator (OE 5774) restricts visibility and determines shape of engine housing. Suggested radiator of similar or larger matrix area of different shape (lower and wider) to improve visibility. Air intake on top needs no filter. Driving positions to be dual facing forward and swivelling seats and controls placed so that it is possible to drive loco in opposite direction. Determined practical maximum depth of skirt at side of chassis. Mentioned oval buffers (as now standard on B.R. locos) which might be considered. Curved buffer bars giving less sideways overhang on curves and better looks were considered an unnecessary expense. Showed sketches I - V and unfinished elevation drawings showing advantages of lower radiator. It was suggested by Wn that the first four locos were too tied up for any alterations to be made, but that our suggestions would be very interesting for future production. Agreed to finish original elevation drawings and draw up project shown on sketch III, and send prints of sketches I - V, together with said elevation drawings, to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and Wn/Hbn.
