4457 Expl: Dept: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/An2/LG. 17th. Sept. 1926. The Dunlop Rubber Co., Fort Dunlop, Erdington, Birmingham. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Paull. Development Superintendent. With reference to yours of the 16th.inst. While we appreciate your view that the modified triple stud tread may more nearly approach to the traction tread, we would emphasise that on the 6" ctyres which we tested, the triple stud tread was the worst for 'shimmy'. We agree that with traction tread tyres of this size, we also encounter high speed wobbles. However, we were able to establish to our own satisfaction, that this was the preferable tread of the two. The reason why we are apprehensive as regards the 6.75" tyre, is that it is just sufficiently free from wobbles with the traction tread to be a safe proposition for production. We feel that it only requires a slight increase in the wobbling propensity of these tyres to make them very unsatisfactory. Yours faithfully, | ||
