GRY{Shadwell Grylls} x540 To WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from R/Ltd. E/Ltd.10/HP.6.2.34. c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} HG. See me 20/25 HP. 10,000 miles Test Car - 21-G-IV. -------------------------------------------- The recently issued quarterly complaint list shows a depressing number of brake complaints on 20/25 HP. cars. We think it is necessary to make an effort to incorporate some real improvements on the next 20/25 10,000 miles test car 21-G-IV. The following specification has been arrived at, after a consultation with the Experimental Department as being the best known at present and to have for its object the elimination of thumps and inefficient brakes. (1) Wider front brakes, giving 24% more front brake lining area to N. Sch.3961. This scheme calls for no alteration to the present axle forging. (2) Direct pedal operation to all four wheels as issued for the Bentley but with lever lengths modified to suit the 20/25 HP. chassis. (3) The J.3. type of servo to N. Sch.3873 but modified to do away with the three spigotting pins (which are a major factor in producing inefficient servos, and utilising in their place corrugated plates. The servo also incorporates a needle bearing in the bridge piece. (4) Spherical bearings to equaliser shafts N. Sch.3950. The first and last items have already been issued and Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} will shortly issue instructions covering (2) and (3). E/Ltd. | ||
