CYLINDER BLOCKS. -------------- Referring to the question of the disposal of cylinder blocks, which were dismantled from a customers car owing to complaint of knocks, the original idea was that these cylinders should be reinforced on the end, and should then be handed back to the Repair Department as usable against the next complaint of a similar nature. Since instructing the above, however, we have obtained considerably more information. I would now add that I consider Mr. should strut the cylinder bodies as he does in the case of complaints on production - this being done in addition to the shrinking on of the rings. I am quite certain that cylinders so treated are a usable proposition, and could be utilised by the Repair Department against customers complaints of knocking, which we now appreciate is the result of distortion due to pulling the cylinders down. The whole object of my original memo was to prevent the cylinders being scrapped, which seemed to me to be an unjustifiable procedure. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
