VALVE LASH VARIATION (CONT'D)

With the aluminum brackets the lash at 0°F is not more than .015", as in the case of the malleable brackets, but less, as shown on the lash curve sheet. And due to the lower lash when the engine is started at 0°F this lash peak, as shown on the curve, is much less than the peak reached when malleable iron brackets are used. This compares very favorably with the low peak obtained with the combination of malleable iron brackets and oil temperature regulator. As the engine becomes very hot, the additional expansion of the aluminum brackets compensate for the expansion of the push rods, and although it decreases to a point below .015" the lash is relatively consistent.
