WATFORD E6 MAGNETO OFF CHASSIS 76-CE.(LIECHTI)

Upon starting this magneto up with a view to testing it there was observed to be no H.T. discharge on the gaps or safety gap; at the same time smoke was seen issuing from the rear part of the machine, accompanies by a smell of burning insulation.

On examination i-t was found that the insulation of the H.T. slip ring had broken down, sparks being observed to pass to earth at point where the end of the secondary winding was connected. The slip ring cannot be examined thoroughly unless we remove the armature of the magneto. From what can be seen, the insulated flange of the slip ring is cracked in two places.

This would account for the breakdown.
