x5410 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/Hll.12.31. re. 20/25 HP. CHASSIS. LOW RATED SPRINGS. With reference to D/EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/OG.9.12.31. pointing out that Sales have asked that the Works should decide what chassis are to be fitted with the above and that "every possible effort will be made by them to give on the erection instructions some information as to the conditions under which the car will be used". We suggest you should arrange a meeting to go into this matter, so that BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} should be able to instruct suitable springs when issuing erecting instructions to the Works, to which all will be agreeable. At this meeting we should like Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} to supply some information as to the number of customers' cars on which he has fitted low rated springs, and the number of cases where he has had to change from low rated springs to standard owing to complaints from customers. We rather take the view that low rated springs should be more liberally used, judging by the experience we have so far had with our own cars and with customers' new cars. In fact, it would appear that we should cut out the standard springs for both 25-HP and 40/50 HP. cars and they should be either low rated or high rated springs according to whether the car is for normal use or for high speed, continental use.
