CENTRAL CHANGE GEAR X.4252 I understand from Mr. Johnson that there is no desire now for front wheel brakes on the Goshawk chassis, but it is highly desirable to return to the side position for the change speed levers. We are therefore modifying the present box design (without any radical changes) for the change speed lever to be carried on the right hand side of the chassis. It will be remembered that for the American cars with left hand steering the central change is far preferable so that when we come to design any 20 HP. or 40/50 HP. car with left hand steering we should adopt central change. At the moment our programme is for Derby production, both wheel brakes are being arranged for side lever change speed. When the present stock of Goshawk parts are used up, no more central change will be made. That we can offer delivery of Goshawks chassis with side levers from Works in small numbers 6 months hence.
