CAR CARBURETTERS.

At one time and another we have tested out various carburetters on our cars with the object of finding out the possibility of improving the performance of our own carburetter. Broadly speaking the comparison has been between two types of carburetter - expanding carburetters of which we take the RR. as the outstanding example and static carburetters represented by Solex, Stromberg and Zenith.

We have always favoured the expanding type and the RR. carburetter has stood the test of time and for all its limitations we have been unable, up to the present, to substitute a static carburetter which would give such a good aggregate performance as the 40/50 RR. Certainly our recent tests have shewn that the Solex carburetter approaches the RR. carburetter in performance nearest of all the static carburetters we have tried. (see appended report for Solex tests). report to follow

While engaged on these comparison and the development of our own carburetters, it is interesting to consider the suitability and limitations of each type for the particular duty they have to fulfil on our cars. In making this general analysis we are able to see the possibility of what we think an original form of expanding carburetter which really amounts to a development of our Phantom carb. with applications from our aero carbs.

Dealing firstly with the advantages possessed by the static carburetter we may say :-
