I have now interviewed the Bosch Company with regard to their magnetos with the following results:

B-6: I have already wrote you about this machine April 28, pointing out that this machine was not of the quality for our car and had been sent over in error. We should be glad if you would point this out to R. {Sir Henry Royce} Also that the H.T. brush post had given trouble on early machines.

I do not think you will be interested further in these machines.

D^U.Z-6: Mr. Clark has asked for replacement parts for these. The Bosch Company are finding out whether it is possible to ship replacement parts or whether it would be better to ship new magnetos.

Meanwhile I have asked Clark for an order for these, but am asking Mr. Manning to send at once two (2) ZR.6 H.T. pencil replacements.

I think probably the American Bosch will ask us to discontinue tests on the D.U.Z. and pin our attention to the ZR-6 since the D.U.Z. is still experimental.

ZR-6. It is a pity that the ZR.6 you took over has been dismembered and sent to F.H.R. since you now have no American Bosch ZR.6 on which you can possibly get a proper test. The new machine when reassembled will have lost a lot of its pep, while the old machine on which the test was run has had ample opportunity in transit and in the stock room to have some of its magnetism shaken out of it. Perhaps it has been dismantled also, and you know yourself that however careful this is done the strength of the magneto suffers.

Contd.
