C. to ST.{Capt. P. R. Strong} MOR. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} WIRING.

In view of some little misunderstanding between ourselves and Derby on the subject of the wiring of accessories on the chassis we would like to again state the main points of our policy for J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} S.

(1) The main chassis distribution box should be in the centre of the front of the dashboard so that the switch may also be in the centre of the instrument board. This also avoids the handling of both the instrument board and the dashboard when dealing with the L. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} cars.

(2) Past experience has taught us that we do not like the coachbuilders electrician to make connections inside the chassis distribution board, but we do not object to fuses belonging to the accessories being in that board provided separate junction boxes are provided for the coachbuilders to wire up to.

(3) We need two junction boxes - one on the back of the dashboard which need not be readily accessible if the fuses are in the main distribution box and the other inside the chassis side channel in the neighbourhood of the rear unsweep of the frame.

(4) We agree to the suggestion by E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} that from each of these coachbuilders junction boxes two wires should go, to two separate fuses in the main distribution box, one wire being for lighting current, and the other for heavy current such as cigar lighters. These coachbuilder's junction boxes would be simple bakelite mouldings having in them 3 terminals - heavy and low duty, and an earth terminal. We must provide an earth terminal as coachbuilders are liable to choose as an earth articles which are not strictly at earth.
