x7940. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} re 23-EX. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}4/E27.5.30 I have just been reading EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}'s report regarding the above car. I enclose copy of PN{Mr Northey}'s and EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}'s reports on the same car. I understand that you will be taking the car down to Brooklands with a view to investigating the question of speed which all the reports have commented on and which appears unsatisfactory. There is also the very important question of loss of water from the radiator and overheating which these reports do not refer to but which were a feature of GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}'s reports. The other main point which appears to require investigation is the steering. On the question of thermostatic control of radiator shutters I think it is clear to you that, as it is one of the conditions of the American contract, it necessarily means that we are committed to it for England, and I merely mention this because, whilst I am away in America, I do not wish any question to arise of postponing its introduction in England because of any little difficulty which may have been found in connection with it. I am sure these difficulties can be overcome especially when we bear in mind the fact that it has been standard on the American Phantom I chassis for some considerable time and I believe with quite satisfactory results. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} PS. I understand that PN{Mr Northey} is having this car returned to you to-morrow, Wednesday, morning. Enc. Copy of PN{Mr Northey}2/WT26.5.30 Br1/GS.26.5.30 | ||
