P.2. S.M. 2nd Gearbox.
--------------------

N. Sch's 4170 and 4173 herewith shew a revised vent and a spherical gear lever shaft bearing for this box.

The object of this revised vent is to avoid weakening the shaft as occurred with the previous scheme.

The spherical bearing has been asked for by the Experimental Department to overcome lateral binding.

We have spring loaded the bearing to avoid rattles and ask for two strengths of spring 3 and 11 lbs to be tried.

The spring load should be no more than is required to retain the bush in place under the loads applied to the gear lever.

The stiffened gate N. Sch.4199 should also be fitted to this box.
