X.4123 Sft.{Mr Swift} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. A.I.D.(Mr.Bradshaw). TMW 8E. 3784. EAGLE ENGINE CYLINDERS WITH NICKEL DEPOSITED THREADS. ----------------------- With reference to the 12 cylinders which you have had nickel deposited on the sparking plug boss screw threads, it is considered that the best way of testing these with a view to getting the A.I.D. to approve of Rolls-Royce doing this work instead of having to send the cylinders to the Fescol Co. is for the Experimental Dept. to run an engine for 10 hours fitted with these cylinders. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has agreed to this, and Mr. Bradshaw is agreeable to one of the Air Ministry Eagle VIII repair engines being used for this purpose, providing we make good any part which may fail due to this test. Therefore should be glad if you would arrange for one of these engines to be fitted with the cylinders in question and handed over to the Experimental Dept. This engine should do 10 hours' run with these cylinders, after which the latter should be handed over to the A.I.D. who will then make arrangements for sparking plugs to be screwed in and out of the bosses for a number of times, similar to what was done with the cylinders which were deposited by the Fescol Co. for A.I.D. approval.
