FOR FILES. From AJL. X7510. 28.10.29. PHANTOM 11 PETROL SUPPLY SYSTEM. X. 7510. X. 7460. We give herewith the result of comparative tests made with and without a non return valve in the petrol pipe from the rear tank to the autovac. The object of using a non-return valve is to gain the time lost due to the autovac having to exhaust the whole of the petrol line each time it operates. The results shew a marked advantage (12% average) due to employing the valve. A ball type of valve was used and was put in the petrol line in a vertical position close to the autovac. It is at present fitted on 22-EX. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. To A.J.L. Will you try effect of running out of petrol with this non return valve in the system so that the pipe to the rear tank is kept full of petrol, then draw petrol from the rear tank on the starter motor and see if it reduces the time over standard appreciably.
