Footswitch. (lucas) 31,800 miles.

This unit was of the Lucas FA/M22 type. It was found to be in good condition.

Stop lamp switch. (D.36) 30,300 miles. The condition of this switch, electrically, was found to be satisfactory, but dirt and moisture get inside. One terminal was rusty. Under shields which have now been fitted will improve this.

Reverse lamp switch. (D.236, PD.168) 30,300 miles.

Condition good.

Petrol Pump Switch. (Lucas Std) 30,300 miles.

Condition good.

Dimmer Switch. DR.2353 - Smith) 31,800 miles.

Examination of this unit proved that it was a complete failure. It had become overheated to such an extent that the former at one end had burned away, allowing the element to collapse.

The insulation of the body was also somewhat charred. This confirms the previous failure on a similar switch on the first test.

This type is now being replaced by a new type of rheostat made by Messrs. Lucas (LUC.DR.2354).

Starter Motor. (RR. ch.1873 No.2. 30,300 miles.

The special features on this motor are :-

DCD.137 Rivetted brush gear.
DCD.270 Cheaper Drive.
DCD.143 Main switch mounted on carcase.

On examination the rivets on one of the positive brush holders had loosened.

This type of rivet is not satisfactory, those used by Lucas look better and remain tight in service.

Drive - DCD.270.

Satisfactory in every respect.
