To By c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to By/KD. 6132 RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HC.10/JH.12.12.36. re Owners Complaint Report No.N.1581. This car failed due to the blowing of the main fuse, caused by the spade terminal of the ammeter lead touching the ammeter case and so shorting to earth. Fitted properly there is no danger of this occurring, however, in this case we have to rely on the coach-builder who by fitting in a careless manner may introduce this fault. By providing a thin disc of leatheroid or fibre of a diameter corresponding to the outside diameter of the case, and locating same by means of two holes punched in the disc to fit over the terminals and be held down by the back nut, this fault could not happen. The cost of such a disc would be negligible, and in view of the serious nature of the fault, we feel that retrospective action should be taken on all cars fitted with this type of spade terminal. This terminal was introduced at the commencement of the Wraith in order to eliminate the breaking of the lead at terminal joint. RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs} | ||
