R.R. & Co., 100(T)DLY. 278. 16.4.(9) C1. 2554 X3854 Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c.to [illegible] c.to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c.to Hx. c.to HR. Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}12/NJ13.5.20. Rear Springs for Chassis. Jonas Woodhead & Sons Ltd. have written that they can promise to deliver per week, commencing 4th June, 25 pairs of solid main plates to replace slotted main plates of rear springs. They state they might possibly increase the number per week later on. The price will be £2.10.0d. per main plate. There are two different strengths of main plates, 15/32" and 1/2" thick. The former are used on 1600, 1700, 1900, 2000 and 2100 lbs. springs and the 1/2" on all the other poundages of rear springs. Woodheads state they would much rather we sent the springs with slotted main plates to them for changing over, as they are quite convinced it will be more satisfactory, seeing that they have all facilities for handling and regulating the poundage, etc. Their price for the whole job, including the new solid main plate, will be £3.2.6d. per spring. The main plates have no nibs or slots. If we could get a number of springs with slotted plates away to Woodheads this week, it is possible that they might XXXXXXXX commence to re-deliver the same springs to us before 4th June.
