-3- AJSL/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}19.2.25.Contd. experiment again (at a convenient time between others), with the well cleared away forks, so as to be able to tell you whether there is then any end force registered with these on this type of shaft. The gear box casing itself has had its centres checked over 3 times for correctness and parallelism. We are now getting a scheme through for shallow keys on the reverse shaft, while the reduced plain bearing shaft is going on test. The comparative figures for relative tooth and spline loads for 1st. and 2nd. speeds asked for by you, have been partly completed for some days, but were left unfinished in order to get definite experiments under way. These figures will be sent in a memo following. BY has suggested making a reverse shaft thus - We think this might be good, but we suggest trying it with varying longitudinal positions of the front bush, until no end force is registered, which should be the case when the front bush is moved sufficiently far to the rear to cause equal or more deflection on the shaft at the front end, unless some other unthought-of action takes place. The placing of these bushes in their correct relative positions to the inner shaft bearings we suggest is a logical way of affecting a cure, and with our present tackle we believe this position can be found. | ||
