R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. Hon. c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} xu 684. BY/G.9.10.30. The cylinder liner which I referred to in my memo BY6/G.6.10.30. was, as I anticipated, not the fully austenitic composition. The composition of the material given to us by Mr. Owbridge by letter the day after his visit is as follows :- Nickel .6% Chromium .2% Brinell reading ... 370/482. From the above composition, it is evident that whilst the material is hard and close grained, it is not austenitic, but it does result in carrying more carbon in solution and giving a considerably higher brinell figure to the liner.
